1964 Mustang 289 Convertible

This beautiful 1st year 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang convertible was restored as a show car from in 2004 and trailered to many shows throughout the Midwest. Starting with a rare D code 289 V8 four barrel, 210 HP, manual transmission convertible the car underwent extensive restoration including Por 15ing the chassis, rebuilding the engine and transmission, full professional paint and body work, adding 4-wheel disc brakes with a dual reservoir master cylinder and compensator valve, adding power steering and much more.

  After completing the mechanical restoration including switching the car to an alternator from a generator, adding an aluminum radiator and overflow tank with braided stainless steel hoses, adding perTronics electronic ignition, a new 4 barrel carburetor, new oil pan and a custom dual exhaust system. The engine bay was finished with chrome bracing, chrome spark plug covers, special valve covers, custom painted air cleaner with chrome cover, chrome power steering pump, chromed water pump pulley, hood springs and latches etc.

  The bodywork included installing a functional Shelby hood scoop with painted on graphics. The headlamps were replaced with tri bar halogen lights while the tail lights or replaced with sequential flashing billet aluminum lamp assemblies. New chrome bumpers, doorhandles, wheel well trim including fuel cap and trunk lock & door mechanisms were added as well as a billet aluminum grill. To allow for the addition of  4-wheel disc brakes new 17 inch American racing wheels fitted with 215 /50 R 17 radials were added.

 A  POWER custom cloth convertible top and matching boot cover completed the exterior of the car while the inside received new seats, seat foams and seat covers to include high-back pony interior seats, a center console with armrest, billet aluminum instrument panel with vintage instruments, billet aluminum pedal set and E brake as well as custom aluminum interior door hardware. A JVC AM/FM cassette with trunk mounted amplifier and four speakers were added to complete the sound system. Also added was a Hurst shifter, custom steering wheel, three-point seat belts, new carpet set, new dash top, a 1 1/8th” front sway bar, new shock absorbers, rally pack gauges and much more. The trunk is finished with custom carpet and has a matching size spare wheel and lug wrench. Just last week a new clutch, flywheel, release bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate and retainer were professionally installed.  As well the engine was resealed, serviced and a new transmission mount added.

  Overall a beautifully restored and vastly improved rust free rare V-8, manual transmission, disc brake, power steering, power convertible top 1st Mustang that is now ready to drive or show. Though it has been over 15 years since the restoration its most recent work and service has brought it back close to its original show car condition.
